THE PRESIDENTIAL DECISION TO TERMINATE THE ISTANBUL CONVENTION WAS PUBLISHED IN THE OFFICIAL GAZETTE

It was published in the Official Gazette dated 20 March 2021 and numbered 31429 that the "European Council Convention on the Prevention of and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence" was abolished with Presidential Decision 3718.

Convention as 11 May 2011, the first signatory of Turkey, has already been signed by 45 countries and the European Union is an international human rights contract in force in 34 countries. The convention emphasizes that violence against women are the consequences of gender inequality and discrimination against women and aims to protect the most basic human rights for women. On November 24, 2011, the Turkish Grand National Assembly adopted the European Council Convention on the Prevention of and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence, known as the Istanbul Convention, with a national consensus, with 246 yes 1 abstention votes, and no negative vote. But in recent years as Turkey and contaning the Istanbul Convention in some Balkan countries 'woman-man equality', 'gender equality' concepts and LGBTI arrangements of all kinds reject discrimination interpreted as to safeguard the rights of individuals were being discussed. The suspension and termination of the implementation of international agreements with the decision of the President is regulated in article 3 of the Presidential Decree on the Procedures and Principles Regarding the Ratification of International Treaties. Following the ongoing discussions, the İstanbul Convention was terminated by the Decision Presidential.
