The European Convention on Human Rights was signed on 4 November 1950 and entered into force on 3 September 1953.
The European Court of Human Rights is the supervisory body of the European Convention on Human Rights. In case of violation of the European Convention on Human Rights, individuals can apply to the ECHR.
The individual application to the ECtHR is regulated in the 34th article of the Convention. Applications made by natural and legal persons, groups of individuals or non-governmental organizations claiming that their rights have been violated are called “individual applications”.
In order to apply to the ECtHR, all domestic remedies must be exhausted.
The ECtHR can decide whether the Convention has been violated or not, and cannot make a decision to change the verdict.
Our office, which has a separate department for individual application to the ECHR, provides consultancy services in Turkish and English about the application to the European Court of Human Rights.
